In Venturing, if you can dream it, you can do it! Venturing is the teenage, coed program of the Boy Scouts of America for youth 14 to 20 years old (or 13 and have completed the 8th 7th grade). Great news: the Western Massachusetts Council, BSA now allows Crew 180 to welcome younger youth as of 2016!
Crew 180 focuses on fun and high adventure experiences including rock climbing, backpacking, hiking, and canoeing. We meet on Sunday evenings twice a month to plan our schedule.
Venture Crew 180 is a part of a respected family of Scouting programs offered by the Boy Scouts of America.
Scouts have experiences valued by college admissions and employers!!
- Our adventures have included: A week on horseback in New Mexico riding over 50 miles that included rounding up cattle!
- Hikuing... our name for a week long trip we planned that began in canoes on the Connecticut River in Vermont and continued onto the Appalachian Trail with backpacks
- Weekend backpacking trips on the M&M and Tully Trails
- Weekend canoe trips on the Connecticut River, camping on the river banks
- Annual participation in Venture Quest/Venture Summit each spring at a Scout camp in the region.. a combination of learning, fun activities, and social activities with Venturers from throughout CT, MA, VT, and upstate NY.
- High Ropes Challenge Course (COPE)
- Rock climbing and rappelling on both real rock and at local indoor climbing facilities.
- A week at SEA BASE, the BSA's high adventure base in the Florida Keys
- A week long, 100 mile canoe trip on the Connecticut River in Vermont
We teenagers choose, plan, and run all of our activities. We're planning a week canoeing the Connecticut River and backpacking the Appalachian Trail this summer! We enjoy weekend overnights planned with activities that challenge us.
